Two Arrested for Threats and Armed Trespass Against President Trump
Mar-a-Lago Incidents Reveal Surge in Hostile Anti-Trump Actions
Two individuals went off the rails in late June, targeting President Trump with reckless stunts that landed them in federal custody. Carl D. Montague, 37, from Rhode Island, posted violent threats on Truth Social against President Trump and top officials, while Caroline Shaw, 49, showed up at Mar-a-Lago with firearms, insisting she had an urgent message for the president. Feds moved fast to shut them down.
Montague’s June 27 post, flagged by Trump Media and Technology Group, led agents to catch him on June 30 “hiding in the bathtub” in a Providence apartment, where he “began confessing to making threats before agents were able to introduce themselves or explained why they were there.”
He targeted President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Stephen Miller, later admitting he “did not have a specific reason to direct his threat towards” them and “could not identify AG Bondi.”
Citing “smoking a lot of marijuana” and political frustration, he said he had no weapons, no intent to follow through, and felt remorse. Charged with threats against the president and officials, he was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond with no-contact and no-firearm restrictions. Shaw, on June 28, drove to Mar-a-Lago’s south gate with a suspended license, unregistered vehicle, and guns, insisting on an “urgent message” for President Trump. Arrested on misdemeanor charges, she pleaded not guilty, secured a $2,000 bond, and is barred from President Trump’s properties, with a July 14 court date.
These arrests highlight a 2025 spike in incidents at Mar-a-Lago aimed at President Trump, who faced down two 2024 assassination attempts—one in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his ear, and another at his Florida golf course. In January, Bijan Arceo, 32, scaled Mar-a-Lago’s wall and slipped through a service gate, ignoring “No Trespassing” signs, before Secret Service stepped in.
Many attribute these cases to “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a term for liberals’ intense, often irrational hostility toward President Trump that sparks misguided actions. Montague’s heated threats, Shaw’s armed approach, and Arceo’s trespass reflect this trend, pointing to a rise in poorly thought-out anti-Trump efforts. Some argue the violent rhetoric from the left, including claims that President Trump is a “threat to democracy,” also likely fuels such reckless behavior. Thankfully, federal authorities continue to handle these incidents with efficiency.
