Sean Spicer to Testify in Senate GOP Hearing on Biden's Fitness
Former Trump Press Secretary among witnesses examining alleged White House cover-up
Former Trump White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer will testify Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee as part of a Republican investigation into whether Biden administration officials and media outlets obscured signs of cognitive decline during the former president's tenure.
The 10:15 a.m. hearing, titled "Unfit to Serve: How the Biden Cover-Up Endangered America and Undermined the Constitution," is co-chaired by Republican Senators John Cornyn of Texas and Eric Schmitt of Missouri.
Also testifying are University of Virginia constitutional law professor John Harrison and Theodore Wold, a former Trump Justice Department official now with the Claremont Institute.
Republicans plan to argue that unelected aides guided major decisions while Biden struggled with basic tasks, focusing on constitutional questions about executive authority and chain of command rather than Biden's health directly.
Senator Schmitt established a "whistleblower hotline" for former White House staff to report information about "the cover-up of President Biden's decline."
The investigation follows publication of "Original Sin" by CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios's Alex Thompson, which reported that Biden aides concealed his deteriorating cognitive abilities from the public and other officials.
Democrats dismissed the hearing as partisan, with ranking member Dick Durbin calling no witnesses. House Republicans are conducting parallel investigations, with Oversight Chairman James Comer subpoenaing former White House physician Kevin O'Connor.
