Judge Rejects Request To Unseal Jury Questionnaire in Trump Assassination Attempt Trial
Judge Cannon Cites Risk of Jury Taint in Denying Request to Unseal Pretrial Materials in Trump Assassination Attempt Case
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has denied a motion to unseal the jury questionnaire in the upcoming trial of Ryan Routh, who is accused of attempting to assassinate President Trump by staking out Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach last September while armed with a rifle, intending to kill the then-presidential nominee.
Cannon ruled that part of Wednesday’s jury selection status conference in Fort Pierce will remain sealed to protect the integrity of the jury pool. She found that disclosing the questionnaire in advance risked compromising the fairness of the trial. Routh’s request to attend the hearing virtually was also denied.
Routh is set to go to trial September 8 on five federal charges, including attempted assassination of a presidential candidate and assault of a federal officer. Cannon has previously rejected several of his motions, including efforts to suppress evidence and dismiss firearm-related charges.
